HYANNIS -- The Cape Cod Baseball League, nationally
recognized as the premier collegiate baseball program in the nation, has
announced the establishment of a Hall of Fame and an initial class of 12
inductees who wil be enshrined January 20, 2001.
Those honored for the Hall
of Fame include former Cape League players Thurman Munson, Mike Flanagan,
Jeff Reardon, Mo Vaughn and Frank Thomas. Also honored for induction will
be former CCBL manager Eddie Lyons, former umpire and first league commissioner
Dan Silva, former players and Major League scouts Lennie Merullo and Bill
Enos, former player and manager Red Wilson, former CCBL official Dick Bresciani
and long-time executive committee member and former Cotuit Kettleer general
manager Arnold Mycock.
The inductees were elected
based on the following eligibility requirements: players, coaches and umpires
shall be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame beginning no less
than five years after their Cape Cod Baseball League careers are completed;
scouts, personnel and friends of the league who have completed 10 years
of service to the league shall be eligible.
All of those selected will
have their likenesses permanently displayed in the Cape Cod Baseball League
hall of Fame, set to be located in a special museum-type building at the
Heritage Plantation in Sandwich, MA. Memorabilia representing the 115-year
history of the Cape League will also be displayed in the Hall of Fame building.
The official induction ceremony
for the Hall of Fame is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at the Chatham
Bars Inn, Chatham, MA. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. Information
on tickets will follow.
