Special Guests to visit 2001 Sprint PCS Cape
League All-Star Game
FALMOUTH, MA -- Sprint PCS Cape League All-Star Game co-chairperson Chuck Sturtevant announced yesterday (July 13) that one of Fenway Park's icons will be in attendance for the upcoming July 21 event.
Planning to attend and entertain Cape League fans this Saturday is none other than Wally the Green Monster, the mascot of the Boston Red Sox and fan favorite among Fenway's faithful.
In attendance for last year's all-star game, held at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School and the home of the Brewster Whitecaps, was the Philly Phanatic. If the Phanatic's popular and entertaining performance during the 2000 game offers any indication of what's to come this week when "Wally" arrives, then Cape League fans are in for a special treat.
This year's game will be hosted by the Falmouth Commodores at Elmer "Guv" Fuller Field. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m., but many fun-filled activities will precede the first pitch between the Cape League's East and West Division All-Stars.
The all-stars will sign autographs for fans and stage the Annual Home Run Hitting Contest, an increasingly popular event. Falmouth's own Doc Brooks (Georgia) won fans' hearts in 1999 when he knocked 15 long balls out of Clem Spillane Field. Last year's Home Run Contest King was Jason Cooper (Stanford) of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
Also on tap for this year's game is a special visit from the Brian Beru Bagpipers and much more.
