Mid-Season Report

We have now passed the mid-way point of the 2005 season and the pennant races are heating up. The last few weeks of the season will prove to be highly competitive as the teams in the Eastern and Western Division jockey for playoff position. Our attendance figures have been “through the roof” as the popularity of the Cape Cod Baseball League continues to soar.

The CCBL All-Star Game is upon us with this year’s contest being played at McKeon Field in Hyannis on July 30, 2005 at 3PM. Gates open, with free admission as usual, at 10:30 AM with many opportunities for our fans to get autographs, watch batting practice and infield/outfield practice, and get settled in to witness the ever popular Home Run Hitting Contest at 1:15 PM. Plan to get there early as the CCBL All-Star Game is one of the most popular events of the summer and record crowds are expected. During the game, take a look behind the backstop at what will likely be over 100 Major League scouts who will be utilizing radar guns and stop watches to assess the progress and ability of our participants. Remember the names of the players as some will be in the Major Leagues in as little as 3 years from now.

Saturday, June 11th was also a very special day at McKeon Field in Hyannis as the Cape Cod Baseball League hosted a United States Military All-Star Team in an exhibition game. This patriotic event showcased current members of our Armed Forces against a team of current Cape Leaguers representing all of our CCBL teams. The large crowd was treated to excellent baseball and gave all of us an opportunity to say “thank you” to our brave heroes.

It is hard to believe that our season is progressing as fast as it has. It seems like it was just Opening Day, and here we are gearing up for the playoffs already. Over 40% of our pre-season “temporary players” experienced the good fortune of being awarded permanent contracts with our 10 teams, thus fulfilling a dream that many felt would not happen. It has again been a very special season here on Cape Cod and we could not be more proud of what we’re able to offer to our friends, fans, sponsors, volunteers and student-athletes.

We are so humbled and grateful for your support of the Cape Cod Baseball League. You are a major reason why we are widely recognized as the finest collegiate summer baseball League in America! We are most appreciative of your devout dedication and could not be more pleased to provide free wholesome, family entertainment for your benefit. We are truly glad you are here. Thank you!
