Cape Leaguers first six picked in MLB draft

The first six picks in Tuesday's Major League Baseball Amateur draft played in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

No. 1 overall pick Luke Hochevar, a right-hand pitcher from Tennessee who played with Cotuit in 2003, was taken by Kansas City.

And highly regarded Daniel Bard of the University of North Carolina was taken 28th by the Boston Red Sox. Bard was joined in the first round by fellow Tar Heel Andrew Miller (Chatham A's) who was chosen sixth by the Detroit Tigers.

Other Cape League players picked in the top 10 included: Greg Reynolds of Bourne and Stanford, (2, Colorado Rockies); Evan Longoria of Chatham and Long Beach (3, Tampa Bay); Brad Lincoln of Bourne and Houston (4, Pittsburgh); Brandon Morrow of Yarmouth-Dennis and California (5, Seattle); and Tim Lincecum of Harwich and Washington (10, San Francisco).

Also, Kyle McCulloch of Texas, who pitched for Hyannis in 2004, was taken No. 29 by the world champion White Sox.
