The Hyannis Mets took to the road on Friday the 13th, heading to New Bedford for a game against the Wareham Gatemen.

It was a tight contest with solid play keeping the scores low, but in the end the boys in blue fell to the Gatemen 3-2.

On the mound for Hyannis, Austin Hudson was stellar, only allowing one run in six hits during just over seven innings. Fans were so impressed with Hudson’s performance he received a rousing ovation as he headed to the dugout.

Unfortunately his backup couldn’t continue his momentum and the Gatemen were able to overtake the Mets in the end.

The game was not without its high points, including terrific at-bats from Phil Bell, David Macias, and Dan Brewer who smacked his seventh double of the season.

On Saturday night the Mets found a slice of success when they claimed Game Four of the Patriot Cup against the Cotuit Kettleers with a final tally of 6-1.

Jason Franzblau pitched eight super innings, allowing only one run, a homer from Cotuit’s Robert Stock.

Mets bats were hot with James Darnell, David Macias, Dan Brewer, and Kiko Vazquez all having hits.

Although the Mets’ win against Cotuit broke a two-game losing streak, a new streak began on Sunday night when Hyannis fell to Harwich 7-5.

The Mariners came from behind to overtake the Mets in Hyannis, who got off to a solid start but couldn’t maintain their strength.

Kiko Vazquez put the Mets on the board with a nice double to bring in Joey Gonzales before Harwich tied the game in the top of the second.

Gonzales helped Hyannis regain the lead in the bottom of the third when he doubled and brought in David Macias. Unfortunately, Harwich snagged the lead for good on a three-run homer in the sixth.

Another loss on Monday night to the Falmouth Commodores sent Hyannis to the bottom of the Western Division standings.

Hyannis was stymied by Falmouth pitcher Aaron Crow and only managed three runs in the game, a no-hitter for Crow until the fourth.

Heroes for Hyannis were Shane Peterson, who hit a two-out, two-run single in the eighth, and the fourth home run of the season from third baseman James Darnell.

While Tuesday was a day off for the Cape League, rain washed out all games on Wednesday, including a scheduled Hyannis-Wareham game. At press time the Mets were set to battle the A’s on the road, with a home game against Falmouth taking place today at 5 p.m.

The Mets are last in the Western Division with 22 points, tied with Wareham. Their record stands at 10-16-2.
