After an up and down week for the Hyannis Mets, Matt Daly capped things off nicely when he threw an impressive 4-1 no hitter for his team on Wednesday night against the Wareham Gatemen.

Daly settled comfortably into his spot on the home mound in Hyannis, becoming the second Mets pitcher to throw a no-hitter in one year. Ironically, Daly was watching from the Mets’ bench last season when southpaw and recent MLB draftee Charlie Furbush threw a no-hitter against the Bourne Braves.

During Wednesday’s outing Daly walked four but fanned eight while allowing only one unearned run. This was Daly’s first win of the season.

Providing stellar backup, Daly’s teammates were focused defensively and at bat. David Macias turned in a terrific diving catch in the seventh to wow the crowd, while the hitting power of Ryan Jackson and Shea Robins contributed to Hyannis’ winning score.

Jackson doubled home a run in the third to bring in Kiko Vazquez, and Robin clocked a homer that gave Hyannis the go-ahead in the sixth.

It was an interesting go-round for Hyannis on Friday night when the Mets defeated the Falmouth Commodores 8-7.

Although the Commodores staged a late-game rally, the Mets were able to hold on and clinch a much-needed win.

In one of the game’s most impressive moments, Mets players James Darnell and Dan Brewer clocked back-to-back homers to bring in four runs. Darnell’s three-run hit was his sixth of the season.

Macias also hit well, smacking a two-run single in the fourth to further extend Hyannis’ lead.

Although Falmouth narrowed the lead to within one, Hyannis closer Tyler Stohr shut the door when he forced a groundout to end the game and secure the win.

Saturday night didn’t go as well for the Mets, who dropped a game to the Bourne Braves 2-0. Although the Mets attempted a rally in the final innings, the Braves bullpen proved mightier in the end.

Proving the “today is another day” theory, the Mets rebounded from the Braves’ shutout to initiate a stellar 5-2 win against Brewster on the road on Sunday.

Once again Brewer was the hit man, along with teammate Robin, with each player garnering four hits in the outing, including Brewer’s gorgeous two-run homer in the fifth. Robin had hits in his first four at-bats.

Hyannis’ Joey Gonzales also had a terrific game, contributing three hits, one of which was a nice home run in the ninth.

Pitcher Jason Franzblau continued to impress, only allowing four hits and two runs in seven innings for the Mets while fanning nine. Franzblau was aided in the win by reliever Garrett Sherrill who notched his first save.

Hyannis eked out a win on Monday night, defeating the Gatemen in Wareham 1-0. Andrew Doyle was impressive on the mound, giving up just five hits while fanning five in nine innings, bringing his stats to 4-1.

Ryan Jackson’s single in the seventh brought in Hyannis’ only run when Vazquez was able to cross the plate, but it was all the boys in blue would need to secure the win.

The Mets were on their home turf Tuesday night, suffering a tough loss to the Y-D Red Sox 8-2. Hyannis’ two runs were the work of Gonzales who hit a two-run double in the eighth to prevent a total shutout.

At press time the Mets were scheduled to travel to Bourne to face the Braves, with a home game against Brewster today at 5 p.m.

Catch the Hyannis all-stars tomorrow as they join the Western Division Team at the All-Star Game in Wareham.
