After a day of respite on Monday and an up-and-down weekend, the Kettleers were back in action Tuesday night against Bourne, coming away with a 6-6 final score and the first of two ties this week.

For the Kettleers it was something of a surprise-win situation. The team trailed 6-3 in the fifth, but a homer and a double from catcher Caleb Joseph helped the Kettleers rally and secure the tie.

Ryan Lollis lit the rally fire with a nice single before crossing the plate on a hit from Correy Figeuroa. Robert Stock’s two-run single evened out the score. Josh Harrison also had a stellar game, going 4-for-5 at the plate.

With the score locked at 6-6, ensuing darkness brought the game to a close after eight innings.

The Kettleers notched another tie on Wednesday night during a Fourth of July game against the Hyannis Mets. Game three of the Barnstable Patriot Cup proved interesting, ending with a score of 4-4.

On Friday night, in spite of Mike Bianucci’s first homer of the season – a nice two-run hit –Cotuit’s bats were, for the most part, silenced by Y-D pitcher Matt Wickswat as the Red Sox defeated the Cotuit Kettleers 6-2.

Pitching for the Kettleers, Chris Fetter had a reasonable performance during his six innings, turning in strong second and third innings.

Unfortunately the Sox were stronger, backing up good pitching with solid offense.

On Saturday night Cotuit fell to Falmouth, struggling again with pitching issues and flat bats.

After a rocky first and second inning, Cotuit pitcher Ryan Strauss found his rhythm in the third, turning in a 1-2-3 inning with some terrific defense from teammate Reese Havens.

Cotuit’s only runs came in the sixth inning with Aaron Baker hit a solo homer and Figeuroa brought Stock in on a single.

Sunday night’s game against the Orleans Cardinals threatened to become the Kettleers’ first tie of the season, as the score remained locked at 0-0 until almost the end of the game.

In the top of the ninth Cotuit finally put one on the board, breaking the tie, thanks to quick thinking – and running – by Figeuroa.

After striking out, Figeuroa reached first on a passed ball before an error and a sacrifice bunt moved the Kettleers to second and third.

Power hitter Baker was intentionally walked but Figeuroa crossed the plate on Brian Wilson’s bunt to give the Kettleers the win.

On the mound for Cotuit, J.B. Shuck struck out 11 in six innings while walking two and only allowing one hit. Reliever Josh Lindblom garnered his third win in relief to bring his season tally to 3-0.

At press time the Kettleers were scheduled to face Orleans at Lowell Field, followed by a trip to Brewster today for a 5 p.m. game against the Whitecaps.
