Defending CCBL champs the Y-D Red Sox have been busily putting Cape League teams in their places as of late, and the Hyannis Mets were no exception when they fell to the Sox 5-0 on Tuesday.

Four hits were all the Mets could make against strong Y-D pitcherTerry Doyle, with singles from David Macias, Patrick Long and Shea Robin.

In a spirited Fourth of July game (game three of the Barnstable Patriot Cup), the Mets tied the Cotuit Kettleers 4-4 thanks to a Dan Brewer homer off Kettleers pitcher Josh Lindblom.

Brewer had the only run for the Hyannis Mets on Friday when he clocked his first home run of the season in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, Brewer’s beautiful hit wasn’t enough to lift the Mets to a rally as they lost to the Bourne Braves 5-1.

Saturday night became a classic pitcher’s duel when the Mets faced the Wareham Gatemen, falling 4-3 when the dust settled.

Wareham snagged an early 4-0 lead before the end of the second, but Hyannis responded in the top of the third when Phil Bell hit a nice double to bring in Francis Larson. Next up was Scott Elmendorf with an RBI single. Shane Peterson hit another double to bring in Elemendorf and cut the Gatemen’s lead to one run.

Stellar pitching from Wareham’s Wade Miley kept the Mets from crossing the plate again in the game.

On Sunday night the Mets’ hitting slump came to an end when the boys in blue defeated the Chatham A’s 11-8.

Brewer was the man again, smacking his second home run of the season, a nice two-run hit in the sixth.

Before Brewer’s hit, Peterson cracked a sweet line drive to right center that cleared the bases and brought him all the way to third. He was brought in on a grounder from Kiko Vazquez.

By the end of the second, with help from Elemendorf scoring his second run of the game, the Mets led 6-0, establishing a lead that Chatham challenged but couldn’t break.

In the bottom of the fifth three consecutive doubles brought the Mets to a 9-3 lead. Peterson, Vazquez and Ryan Jackson all found the sweet spot on their bats in a terrific offensive effort for their team.

Elmendorf went 3-for-5 with three runs scored for Hyannis, while Peterson went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI’s. Brewer and Vazquez also had three RBI’s each.

Andrew Doyle was strong on the mound for Hyannis, improving to 3-0 and finishing the game with five strikeouts, two walks and only two earned runs in six innings.

As The Patriot headed to press yesterday the Mets were scheduled to face Chatham at Chatham, with a home game tonight at 5 against the Orleans Cardinals.
