Hot does not even begin to sum up what the Falmouth Commodores are right now. The team took down visiting Hyannis last night, 6-3, for its seventh consecutive victory. Over the team’s last 12 games, it has tasted victory 10 times. That stretch of great ball has seen the Commodores climb out of fourth place in the west division to take sole possession of second place with a 15-13 overall mark. Falmouth remains four points behind division-leading Bourne, which beat Cotuit yesterday by a 9-4 score.

“When you’re losing, when you go through one of those streaks, it never seems like you’re going to win. When you win, sometimes it just seems easy, and it’s not. You have to remind kids that you have to go out and do the right things every day, stay solid, stay steady, avoid the highs and lows, but when you’re winning, it can seem easy,” Falmouth manager Jeff Trundy said following last night’s win.

Of course it might seem easy when a team’s starting pitcher throws the way that Aaron Crow did for the Commodores last night. Crow, of Missouri, scattered three hits over seven innings of work, with the only blemish against him coming in the seventh when James Darnell (South Carolina) hit a homer to left to get the Mets on the board. At that point, though, Falmouth already led by five runs. Crow improved to 3-1 on the season as he struck out five and walked one. His tiny earned run average jumped from 0.42 to 0.64.

Falmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a two-out rally in the third. Phil Carey (Winthrop), who had two hits, started the rally with a bunt single and then Joey Wong (Oregon State) singled to right. Dave Adams (Virginia) then drove in a run with a single and then Conor Gillaspie (Wichita State) drove in a pair by slicing a double to left to make it 3-0.

Two more runs in the sixth gave Falmouth a 5-0 lead. With the bases loaded, and two away, Matt Hague (Clemson) scored on a wild pitch for the fourth run. Carey then drove in Aja Barto (Tulane) with a single to right to make it 5-0, but Kevin Dubler (Illinois St.) was thrown out at the plate to end the inning on a bang-bang play.

After the Hyannis homer, Falmouth got that run back when Wong scored on an Adams single in the bottom of the seventh. Hyannis added two meaningless runs in the eighth, but Kyle Weiland (Notre Dame) came in to slam the door to end the threat and then picked up the save by pitching a solid ninth.

After having the day off today, the Commodores return to action against Y-D, at home, tomorrow night at 7.
