Trading blows the Cotuit Kettleers and the Hyannis Mets slugged it out Wednesday afternoon at McKeon Park and in the end both were still standing. Dan Brewer (Bradley) of the Mets got in the last blow in the bottom of the eighth and final inning, with a game tying home run over the left field fence to knot things at 4-4.

The Mets went up by two in the bottom of the first off Cotuit starter Mike Cisco (South Carolina). Cisco pitched well for five frames as did Hyannis starter Bryce Stowell (Cal-Irvine). The Kettleers got on the scoreboard when Josh Harrison (Cincinnati) doubled home Correy Figueroa (St. Petersburg) to make it a 2-1 game.

Cotuit tied the game in the top of the sixth when Ryan Lollis (Missouri) drilled a bases loaded base hit into center field scoring Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) and Ryne White (Purdue).

Josh Lindblom (Purdue) took over on the hill for Cisco in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh Robert Stock (USC) put the Kettleers in the lead with a double down the right field line that scored Figueroa to give Cotuit a 4-3 lead. But, with one out in the eight, Brewer took Lindblom deep for the second Cotuit tie in two days.

Sunday Harrison lit up Bourne pitching as the Kettleers came back to tie the Braves 6-6. Harrison finished the afternoon 4-for-5 with a run scored.

Caleb Joseph (Lipscomb) led off the second inning with a home run over the left field fence, but the Braves scored four times in the top of the third.

White then drove in Harrison in the bottom of the frame as Cotuit kept it tight at 4-2 after three.

Joseph led off the bottom of the fourth with a double into left-centerfield and scored making it a one-run ballgame. But again Bourne came back this time with two in the top of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Lollis got things going in the sixth for the Kettleers as they scored three times on four hits. Garrett Richards (Oklahoma) took the hill for the final two frames for Cotuit and held the Braves hitless. Darkness drew the curtain on the game at the end of eight leaving it in a stalemate.

The Kettleers waited until the ninth inning Sunday before scoring the games only run to take a 1-0 victory over Orleans. J.B. Shuck (Ohio State) got the start for Cotuit facing Pat McAnaney (Virginia) of the Cardinals. Both pitchers had outstanding starts with Shuck allowing just two hits over six innings, while striking out 11. McAnaney held the Kettleers to one hit over seven frames and retired eight on strikes.

In the ninth the Cardinals were the first to blink as a passed ball on a third strike allowed Figueroa to reach first. A throwing error allowed Figueroa to reach second. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Curtis Dupart (Georgia Tech) and then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Brian Wilson (LMU).

Lindblom, who took over from Shuck in the seventh retired the Cardinals in order in the bottom of the ninth.

White and Mike Bianucci (Auburn) have been making some noise for the Kettleers this week. White is hitting at a .356 clip and Bianucci is tied for the league lead in stolen bases with eight. Harrison has been steady all season currently hitting .321 with six stolen bases and along with Bianucci has nine RBI. The Kettleers remain in second place, six points behind Western Division leader Bourne. Tonight they go over the bridge for a 7 PM meeting with the Wareham Gatemen at Spillane Field.
