For Cape League ball players it’s been a wild summer. Rain delays, 13-inning games and cicadas have certainly made the season interesting. But for fifty of the country’s best college baseball players, it was well worth it, as evidenced by the grins on their faces as they stood along the baselines at Fenway Park on July 30.

THE GANG’S ALL HERE – Cape League All Stars from the Hyannis Mets, including Chris Dominguez, Andrew Carraway, Trent Ashcraft, Dale Cornstubble and Ben Paulsen, enjoy their evening at Fenway Park on July 30. Cape League All-Stars were recognized in a special pre-game ceremony.

The League’s top East and West Division All-Stars and their field managers were treated to an all-star evening in recognition of their efforts.

Six players from Hyannis – Chris Dominguez, Trent Ashcraft, Dale Cornstubble, Andrew Carraway, Russ Brewer and West MVP Ben Paulsen – and three from Cotuit – Kevin Patterson, Seth Blair and Nick Hernandez – traveled to Fenway on Wednesday, taking in the sights and a Red Sox game featuring several Cape League alumni.

Following a tour of the park, Cape League graduates Sean Casey (Brewster ’94) and Justin Masterson (Wareham ’05) presented players and managers with plaques commemorating their achievements this season.

No doubt dreaming of a time when they, too, might play in the Bigs, the smiles on players’ faces were wide as they took in the sizeable crowd, shook hands with Wally the Green Monster and took their places along the first and third baselines.

Then it was off to the stands to take in the game. Though the Sox fell to the Angels 9-2, it was still a night for the stars of tomorrow to remember always.
