Harwich walks off with series sweep

By Matt Rice
HARWICH -

It may have taken until the bottom of the eighteenth inning, but the wait was well worth it as the Mariners scored an unearned run to lift them over the Orleans Cardinals for a shot at the league title starting on Tuesday night. Brian Kemp started the rally with a two-out base hit to set up the dramatic win. Tommy Medica moved him up a base with an infield base hit to the third baseman. With two men on and two out, Brandon Belt hit a fly ball into left field that was mishandled by Orleans' Angelo Songco, allowing Kemp to come home with the series winning run. Matt Thomson pitched a gem out of the gate for the Cardinals, allowing only three hits and no runs as he worked into the eighth. Harwich starter Billy Bullock was just as impressive, not allowing a run in nine innings, allowing just five hits. Harwich will now await the winner of the Cotuit/Falmouth series, which concludes today.
