Cape League results for August 9

Harwich 4, Orleans 3
The Mariners scored four runs in the top of the first inning, three on a blast by Joe Sanders, to take game one of the best-of-three series against the Orleans Cardinals on Saturday night. Orleans starter Brad Stillings settled down and pitched well the rest of the game, allowing only one more in his six total innings of work. Harwich starter J. J. Hoover picked up the win, pitching seven strong innings. He struck out 12 Cardinal batters and allowed just one earned run. The momentum is now in Harwich's favor as they now have a home game to try and eliminate the East Division champions. Orleans will send ace Matt Thomson against the Mariners Billy Bullock.

Cotuit 6, Falmouth 4
Trailing by three entering the ninth inning, the Commodores managed to score a run and put the tying men on base before running out of steam as the Kettleers take game one in their best-of-three series. Cotuit scored three rusn in the bottom of the first inning and picked up another pair in the third and a single run in fourth. Nick Hernandez picked up the win for Cotuit as he lasted six innings, allowing only one earned run on eight hits while striking out eight. Drew Storen picked up the key save for Cotuit. The series now shifts to Falmouth where Cotuit will give the ball to Paul Applebee against Falmouth's Chris Gloor.
