Cape League results for June 18

Orleans 3, Harwich 2
The Cardinals handed the East leading Mariners their first loss of the season as Orleans managed to push across the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to pull off the 3-2 win. With two outs in the inning, Tim Wheeler got on base on a fielding error and came around to score the winning run when Shaun Kort launched a game-winning double. Orleans starter Martin Viramontes allowed just one hit, a first inning homerun to Andrew Giobbi, in five innings of work. The Cardinals relievers combined for three hits while Matt Thomson picked up the win, striking out four batters in two innings of work. For the Mariners, Joe Sanders had two hits. Orleans will host Cotuit tonight while Harwich hosts Wareham in makeup games from Sunday's rainout.

Chatham 5, Hyannis 3
Chatham picked up their first win of the 2008 summer with a 5-3 win over Hyannis. The A's scored all five of their runs in the deciding second inning, three off the homerun by second baseman Devin Lohman. Starter Sammy Solis picked up his first win of the season, allowing two unearned runs and striking out eight in five innings of work. Brad Boxberger struck out the side in the ninth for his first save of the season. Trent Ashcroft had a pair of hits for the Mets. Chatham will travel to Falmouth while Hyannis travels to Bourne.

Falmouth 8, Brewster 4
The Commodores scored five runs in the first two innings and pounded out 12 hits in the 8-4 win over Brewster. Falmouth reliever Travis Lawler earned the win, pitching three innings of two-hit ball. Ty Kelly had a pair of hits and an RBI, while teammate Connor Powers also had a two-hit game. Falmouth will host Chatham, while Brewster hosts Bourne.

Wareham 6, Bourne 0
Gatemen pitchers combined for a six-hit shutout and Ryan Pineda and Steve Liddle each had a pair of hits. Brett Eibner chipped in with a pair of RBI. Brandon Workman earned the win, striking out eight Bourne batters while allowing only two hits in six innings of work. Rafael Thomas had a pair of hits for the Braves while will travel to Brewster tonight. The Gatemen will play at Harwich.

Y-D 9, Cotuit 8
The Red Sox scored four runs in the third and fourth innings and held on for a 9-8 win over Cotuit. Greg Peavy allowed five earned runs on five hits but still earned the victory. Mack DeAngelo went 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Red Sox. Josh Rutledge also had three RBI in the win. Cotuit's Mike Bianucci blasted a two-run homerun. The Kettleers will play in Orleans while the Red Sox play in Hyannis.
