East rallies past West in CCBL All Star game

Harwich's Mark Fleury hit a two-run homerun in the eighth inning to cap a remarkable comeback by the East All Stars as they scored seven unanswered runs to win the Cape's version of the mid-summer classic.

Hometown hero Grant Green, who would go on to win the East MVP award, hit a two run homerun earlier in the inning to tie the game at six before Fleury, with fellow Harwich teammate DJ LeMahieu on second, hit a high shot into right field that got caught up in the wind before drifting over the fence for the two-run bomb.

The nod for the West MVP honors went to Ben Paulsen, who knocked in a pair of key runs in the big sixth inning for the West, as they scored five runs to take a five-run lead.

Harwich's Chris Manno had an impressive outing in relief of Martin Viramontes, as the East relief pitchers shut down the West the rest of the way.

Orleans' Rich Poythress hit a homerun in the fifth inning for the East squads first run and hit.

Cardinal teammate Angelo Songco dominated his way to a win in the Homerun hitting contest as he launched eight in the first round and went to defeat DeAngelo Mack in the finals.

The crowd at Veterans Field was estimated at more than 8,500.
