Cape League results for August 4

Orleans 5, Falmouth 0

The Cardinals finally ended their losing streak and claimed the East title in the process. Starter Matt Thomas delivered a eight inning, five-hit shutout performance for the clinching win. Falmouth, with the loss, falls into third place in the West with only a few games remaining. Orleans will finish their regular season schedule this week and then get ready for the division series, which starts on Saturday in Orleans.

Cotuit 4, Chatham 2

The A’s played themselves out of a shot at a playoff berth with a pair of loses on Monday. Following a loss to Harwich in the afternoon, Chatham lost by a pair of runs to Cotuit in the nightcap. The losses put the team back by five runs with only a few games remaining.

Harwich 4, Chatham 1

The Mariners took a one step closer to the final playoff spot in the East with a big win over Chatham during the afternoon game in Harwich. With Brewster idle, the Mariners picked up a game on them in the race for second place in the East. Harwich will play at YD today while Chatham travels to Hyannis.

Bourne 3, Hyannis 2

The Braves remain within striking distance in the West race as they defeated first-place Hyannis 3-2 on Monday. The win puts the Braves three points back of the final spot in the West. Hyannis remains in a tie with Cotuit for the top spot. Bourne will play at Brewster while Hyannis hosts Chatham.
