THIS WEEK IN THE CAPE LEAGUE
(21 June – 27 June 2009)

Coca Cola Pitcher and Player of the Week

COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK:

Rob Gariano, Harwich

This week’s Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week for the 2009 season is Harwich righty Rob Gariano (Fairfield). In a shortened game on the 26th, Gariano pitched a scoreless five and a third innings and led Harwich to a 3-0 victory over Hyannis. The Fairfield University product fanned an unbelievable 11 of the 20 batters he faced, while surrendering only four hits. Gariano sports a 1-0 record and a strong 0.73 earned-run average after giving up only one run in seven strong innings versus Orleans.

COCA COLA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brian Harris, Chatham

Scrappy Chatham second baseman Brian Harris (Vanderbilt) has been named this week's Coca-Cola Player of the Week. Harris batted .353 this week while accruing a first-rate .478 on-base percentage and strong .529 slugging percentage. He has also driven in six runs and homered once in the Anglers' five games this week. The 5-9 Harris is a big reason why Chatham is alone atop the Eastern Division with a 9-4 record.

Harris is a junior at Vanderbilt, where he has made a name for himself thanks to his versatility and knack for getting on base. Harris can play all infield positions well, and recorded a .439 on-base percentage last year along with his .299 batting average. A smart and gritty batter, Harris led the Southeastern Conference in hit-by-pitches with 21 over 64 games in 2009.
