FALMOUTH ---- The season has only just begun and already the leaders are making their mark on the Cape League.
It’s been a good start for Falmouth, with a 4-4 record, good for second in their division behind the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.
Most teams have a rough start when first arriving on the Cape, especially having to hit with wood bats. That didn’t stop Falmouth shortstop
KC Serna (Oregon), who is hitting .280. Serna set the league record last summer with 25 stolen bases. Another player showing his talent is infielder
Kevin Medrano (Missouri State), also batting .280.
Outfielder Kyle Bluestein (Jacksonville State) hit the season’s first home run against Brewster on Saturday, wrapping up a split of a doubleheader.
Right-hander Rob Chamra (N.C. State) fired two scoreless innings against Cotuit on Monday. But the finest performance was turned in by
Mark Pope (Georgia Tech), who was named Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week after throwing seven shutout innings in a 1-0 victory over the Kettleers.
Right-hander Cecil Tanner (Georgia) allowed two runs in 8.2 innings, while right-hander
Matthew Stites (Jefferson County) earned a win with six shutout innings in a victory over Harwich.
